The FrameHawk technologies, especially Lightweight Framebuffer Protocol LFP will be used in combination with the Citrix cloud computing technology HDX in XenDesktop and XenApp products to improve the efficiency of DaaS services.
GREATRESPONDER.COM – It was announced by cloud computing vendor Citrix this week that it is buying the FrameHawk company to strengthen its Desktop Virtualization product portfolios. The statement does not disclose the financial terms of this acquisition but it is very clear that the FrameHawk technologies would be very useful for improving the efficiency of Citrix desktop product portfolios.
According to the statement, the Citrix will use the technologies developed by the FrameHawk Company in the domain of communication, especially its light weight efficient protocol called Lightweight Framebuffer Protocol LFP would be used in combination with the cloud computing frameworks of Citrix such as – XenApp and XenDesktop.
The Citrix is working aggressively to improve the virtual desktop services over the wireless networks due to the fact that many companies are adopting mobile and tablets in their businesses, but the communication over wireless and mobile networks is not smooth and efficient. Normally, on mobile networks accessing the virtual desktops will be less efficient due to intermittent glitches resulting from congestion and other issues. To overcome these issues related to communication problems, the Citrix plans to implement LFP technology developed by the FrameHawk Company would be used with the Citrix HDX to improve the efficiency of DaaS product portfolios of the company.
Already, there is a serious talent hunting contest going on between VMware and Citrix that resulted two top guns of Citrix snagged by VMware to take advantage in DaaS market place. With this merger, the Citrix cloud computing business, especially DaaS would be strengthened.
The FrameHawk was founded about 5 years back in 2008 in San Franscisco, CA. Its LFP protocol creation was inspired by the experiences of the company engineers that they got while working with spacecraft communication at NASA. According to FrameHawk, the goal of the development of this technology was to enable communication on the mobile networks from over 240000 KM distance without any customized chip sets on each device.
The virtual desktop service is getting speeds aggressively, many companies are trying hard to capitalize their market spaces in this domain of business. Many companies like VMware, Amazon and others have recently acquired different companies to strengthen their desktop products.
