TELUS Launched Cloud Computing Services in Quebec – Canada

Greatresponder.com on Dec 09, 2012: TELUS the Canadian television provider and High Speed Internet with Home Phone services has work up a new $65 million data centre in Rimouski, Quebec (Canada) to add cloud computing services and boost managed Web hosting solutions for Canadian businesses. An additional $13 million in IT and Web hosting infrastructure in Quebec is forthcoming.

TELUS  new data centre builders Skanska along with Callisson, Cosentini and Inertech helped construct the Rimouski facility to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold standards. Interestingly, Rimouski’s weather allows for more efficient cooling, enabling natural cooling nearly every day of the year. In fact, TELUS anticipates that the data centre will require only 40 hours per year of cooling via mechanical systems. Rimouski, notes TELUS, is also highly secure and an excellent option for customers seeking a core site or disaster recovery site, as it is more than 250 kilometres from major urban centres.

François Gratton, President of TELUS Quebec and Atlantic said: “With our new Internet Data Centre, companies can now harness the power of managed hosting and cloud computing solutions that are not only reliable, secure and flexible, but also hosted, managed and delivered in Canada.”  TELUS reports that the new facility is more than 80 percent more energy-efficient than traditional data centres, ranking it among the top-performing data centres in North America.
